Gupta & Mrs. Shanti Gupta nurtured MIER from a small school, Model Academy with 2 Students in 1936 to a Major Educational Complex providing Education to over 4000 learners from Pre-School to the Doctoral Level.

Shri Harbans Lal Gupta

Sh. H.L Gupta, the illustrious founder of MIER, is admired for his foresightedness, vision, determination, leadership and entrepreneurial brilliance. He founded Model Academy as the first coeducational school in Jammu in 1936 after rejecting various lucrative job offers in the government and developed the institution with love, dedication, sacrifice and vision. As an educationist his fellow teachers, parents and students admired his teaching skills, compassionate nature and ability to work with zest and zeal. Gupta ji, as he was popularly known was an innovator and a research minded person who was always ready to experiment with new ideas for promoting the cause of education. He laid immense stress on academics and was personally involved with the students through various programmes to enable them to excel in examinations. As a professional teacher and Administrator he travelled far and wide both within and outside the country several times in pursuit of quality education. In view of his contributions to the field of education, Mr. Gupta is also hailed as the ' Father of Voluntary Enterprise ' in Education in J&K State.

Smt. Shanti Gupta

Smt. Shanti Gupta was a forceful personality with vision and wisdom, faith and fortitude and a deep understanding of the aspirations of the budding youth. During her active service career spanning six decades she emerged as an ideal teacher and embodiment of immense love and affection for children. At the same time, her dash and dynamism were instrumental for the growth of both Model Academy and MIER. Throughout her life she played her role as a pioneer for promotion of quality education, particularly amongst women and other weaker sections of society. Smt. Shanti Gupta was a gifted poetess having six publications to her credit. She was also a Globe trotter having visited over 50 countries around the world during her several trips abroad. She travelled on foot the entire Jammu Belt along with Acharya Vinobha Bhave who specially selected her to address his gatherings. She was a scholar of Sanskrit and was associated with the Arya Samaj Movement for several decades. She has left behind a large number of students who affectionately remember her as ' MADAM JI '. She was the Principal of Model Academy and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of MIER from 1983 to 1999.
