Capacity Building Programme on Life Skills

To equip the teachers with different skills required to be incorporated in daily teaching and learning process, Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER organised a one day Capacity Building Programme on Life Skills under the aegis of CBSE, COE, Chandigarh on 20th May 2023. The programme saw an overwhelming participation of more than 65 teachers of various CBSE schools across Jammu. Mrs. Puneet Kour Principal, APS Jammu Cantt and Dr. Anita Sharma from Presentation Convent School were the resource persons.
The workshop started with the Principal, Mr. Pramod kumar Srivastava, reminding the participants about the need and importance of life skills training. He further reiterated that as teachers it is important that the practice of life skills is reflected in the day to day conduct of the classroom and while interacting with the students in general.
The resource persons deliberated on the need of enhancing life skills among students. While mentoring the teachers about the importance of life skills, they explained how life skills are psycho-social abilities that empower individuals to connect with self as well as others and help to develop a healthy lifestyle and positive behaviour. Different skills like thinking skills, social skills and emotional skills were discussed in detail. It was an enriching session for the teachers on the infusion of life skills in the teaching learning process. An elaborate explanation of the role of teachers in life skills education and the characteristics of a classroom environment supportive of life skills education were shared with the teachers to enable them to broaden their knowledge on the topic. The program successfully inculcated in the teachers the perspective of giving students a humanistic system of education where they not only study the subject matter, but also grow into emotionally balanced and empathetic individuals.
